According to reports by the website AllHipHop.com, Apple is currently working on an inexpensive line of Mac computers together in collaboration with rapper 50 Cent, Curtis Jackson in real life. The inexpensive Macs are available for those who cannot afford the
expensive Mac computers that are already in the market. Both Apple and 50 Cent are known for co-branding products, so it is yet unclear whether the reports were indeed true. Needless to say, the move is aimed to increase the sales of Mac computers with the 50 Cent edition just as the U2 edition of the iPods did well in terms of sales.
In a recent article in the Forbes Magazine, manager of 50 Cent Chris Lighty of Violator Management said that the deal between 50 Cent and Apple is all about business. Apple has very minimal shares in the competition, with the move, it is expected that 50 Cent fans can be encourage to buy an Apple computer. But as we can see it the aims of the rapper are indeed noble; the computers are targeting those who are living in poor communities that cannot afford to splurge thousands of dollars for a Mac computer. The rapper has also done other branding deals with other companies, the most recent of which is a clothing line with
Marc Ecko in 2003.
